Aquatic Therapy

As the name suggest, Aquatic Therapy is an exercise based treatment that is performed in the water; typically in a pool.

For patients whose injury or chronic condition prevents full weight-bearing activity, the buoyancy of water and the gentle resistance it provides makes treatment possible when it might otherwise not be. In particular, Aquatic Therapy is very good for:

  • reducing pain & inflammation
  • increasing range of motion
  • improving strength & function
  • enhancing overall rehabilitation outcomes
Aquatic Therapy To Improve Fitness

Aquatic therapy can be particularly useful for patients with chronic conditions including:

  • arthritis
  • fibromyalgia
  • diabetes
  • osteoporosis
  • back pain
  • joint pain (ankles, knees and hips)

Aquatic therapy is also good for those recovering from a:

  • sports injury
  • motor vehicle accident
  • stroke or neurological incident
  • some other form of trauma

It’s also excellent for losing weight & increasing fitness and for many older patients to receive gentle treatment and/or to stay active!

While Aquatic Therapy is typically performed in a swimming pool, is can also be provided through an underwater treadmill. While many of our clinics provide Aquatic Therapy in a swimming pool, only our Leaside clinic currently has an underwater treadmill (the HydroWorx 200).
