Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries

A car accident can be a traumatic experience affecting both the body and mind. The Transportation Safety Board estimates there are about 112,000 car accidents in Canada each year. Many victims suffer muscle, nerve and spinal injuries -- making the journey to recovery a challenging one. Whether you’re involved in a minor fender-bender or a serious head-on collision, receiving a thorough clinical assessment and comprehensive care from experienced professionals is critical for ensuring a complete recovery and restoring your quality of life. If you’ve been involved in a car accident, our interdisciplinary team of experienced health professionals is here for you.

Whiplash & Other Injuries

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. This type of trauma happens when your head and neck jerk forward and then snap back very quickly. It happens often in car collisions due to the rapid force of acceleration and deceleration. In severe cases, whiplash can cause traumatic brain injury, which often goes unrecognized and untreated following an auto accident.

Some other common injuries include:

  • muscle strains
  • joint sprains
  • fractures and lacerations

The key to recovery includes localizing pain, assessing the extent of the damage and any related impacts and establishing & implementing a comprehensive treatment place as quickly as possible. That’s why it’s crucial to seek care immediately.

How Physiomed Can Help

Hip Opener - Lizard Pose 🦎

Tight hips? Hip Opener Yoga Positions are a great tool to help. Maintaining proper spinal alignment and listening to your body is key to avoid hurting yourself.

1️⃣In the first pic, the position is held comfortably, feeling a stretch, and alignment is well maintained.

2️⃣In the second pic, the position is strained, the stretch is intense, and the spine is rounding = poor alignment.
It is safer in this case to stick with the first position and slowly work on improving flexibility, by the use of blocks and/or other hip opener stretches.

✅The Lizard stretches inner hamstrings and groin while challenging core stability and upper body.
