What You Need To Know About Custom Orthotics

If you’ve been experiencing pain in your back, hips, knees or ankles, there’s a good chance that the root cause is a structural imbalance in your feet. In that case, a key part of the solution might be a pair of custom orthotics. They reduce pain and promote more efficient muscle performance, which, in turn, reduces stress on your body. Here’s what you need to know about custom orthotics:

  • HOW ORTHOTICS WORK: Orthotics work by correcting the alignment of your feet and ensuring proper foot function. They are placed in your shoes to support your feet. Over time, your feet are gently directed by the orthotics into a corrected position improving your weight distribution, spreading weight more evenly across your feet and reducing pain.
  • WHO CAN BENEFIT: A wide variety of people can benefit from custom orthotics. In general, anyone with a lower body musculoskeletal condition can benefit from custom orthotics. Many people regularly experience lower body pain without knowing that their feet are the source of their pain. Orthotics can help people who have high arches, flat feet or an uneven stance for various reasons. Athletes as well as those who spend a lot of their time standing often suffer from lower body pain and can benefit from custom orthotics as well.
  • CUSTOM VS. OVER-THE-COUNTER: You’ve likely seen versions of orthotics available in drug stores and other such locations. These are designed for the general public. They are often made by shoe size and there are also different versions for “flat feet” or “high arches”. However, even these are designed for the average person. However, while these may work for some people, the problem is that different people experience pain differently and for different reasons. For example, someone who is in pain due to exercise may have different issues than someone who feels pain from standing for long periods of time. There’s also the fact that no two feet are alike. This is why custom orthotics is often a more effective choice. Custom Orthotics are made from a moulded cast or scan of your feet, which means they’re made specifically to address your particular situation and the unique characteristics of your body. The result is better correction and less pain than typically experienced with off the shelf versions.
